QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD ASK
a. What is the rent?
- It varies anywhere from $250-$400 per invited audience. That means if you want two shows in a day or night you will be charged per show.
b. Exactly what does the rent include?
- Rent includes the theatre, tech booth, lights and sound equipment, dressing room, costume rack, locked prop closet for weekend runs, piano, possible projector with 8'x10' projected image, chairs, tables, acting boxes. Rent does not inclued a tech person, house manager, stage manager, or other personal.
c .Is there an additional charge for rehearsal ? Is there an additional cost for tech time?
-Rehearsals are charged at $25/hr. Tech with lights is $30/hr. Things book up quickly so grab your tech time when you book your show
d. What day can I load in? When tech'ing my show are there any day or time restrictions I need to know about? Do I need to sign up for tech time?
-You need to book your load in time. You must reserve this time in advance. Please book enough time to load in. If you don't book the theatre someone else could book up the time. The same for tech time. Please book this in advance.
e. When can I get a contract from you?
-When you look on the calendar (bottom of page, stagewerx.org) and send an email requesting open dates and times, I will create a contract and send it out usually within 24 hours
f. How many lighting instruments do you have in your theater?
-There is a new state of the art LED lighting system. We use QLC+ software with the LED lights. The program is easy to use once taught. It is not easy to use without training. Setting cues can be much more time consuming. If your show is not light cue heavy, there are a lot of 'looks' already set that you can use. Please let your experienced lighting tech know they need to schedule time to train on the system.
g. Are there cables and gels that I can use?
-There are no more gels or cables needed. The lights can be any color you want. There is no designing at this theatre. The lights are fixed and you will need to work with the current plot. We do have 2 specials you will be able to refocus.
h. How many dimmers are there on the light board?
-There are 16 LED lights.
i. This space left intentionally blank

-There is a sound system with 4 speakers, Mackie 1402 vlz, American Audio 710 Dual cd/mp3 player, (these cd players are picky when reading homemade cd's. please prepare a back-up plan) 100' snake with 8 - 3 pin xlr and 4- 1/4 inch inputs.
k. Do you have additional audio-visual equipment (a projector, an inline machine)? Is the cost of this equipment included in the rent?
-There is a projector you are welcome to use if it's in working order. It is fixed and projects an image 8'x1o' on the upstage wall or flats. There is an electric projection screen that takes 60 seconds to raise or lower. Others use the projector so it cannot be moved or refocused. If your show is dependent on projection please arrange to have back-up equipment should Stage Werx equipment break. Stage Werx does not promise working projection equipment.
l. What does the theater offer in terms of a box office staff or a phone reservation line?
-Stage Werx will not be able to offer any services relating to your ticket sales, reservations, or provide information to interested audience members. There are too many shows with too much varying information to provide that service.
m. Is the theater wheel chair accessible?
-The theatre is completely handicap accessible. The theatre is on the first floor. It is a straight shot on one level from the front of the building to the bathrooms in the back.
n. Will I need to purchase insurance?
-If you are booking a month long run or if you will have aerial performance you will need to provide insurance and add Stage Werx as additionally insured. Ask Ty more about this. She can provide information where to purchase that insurance.
o. Does the theater have a website? Will the theater include info about my show on the website?
-http://www.stagewerx.org is the website and we will provide for you a link and image on our front page.
p. Will the stage be freshly painted before I load in?
-The stage will be clean and ready for your show. The stage is re-painted once wear and tear start to effect the aesthetic.
q. Will I have to repaint the stage when I leave?
-If the impact of your show significantly scuffs the stage, you will be asked to re-paint the stage at your time and cost. We only use Glidden Porch and Floor Black Satin paint on the stage which can be purchased from Builders Discount up the street on Mission and 13th for aprox. $22. The stage needs at least 8 hours to dry.
r. Whose responsibility is it to keep the theater clean between shows?
-You will always be given a clean theatre when you come in. It is your responsiblitiy to return it in that condition. Carpets vacuumed, garbage removed, dressing room cleaned, tech booth cleaned, stage swept and mopped, risers swept and mopped. Everything you need is available to help you. Failure to return the theatre in the condition with which it is received will result in a $40/hr cleaning fee. The bathrooms are not your responsibility.
s.If other classes or shows use the space are they responsible for cleaning the theater?
-Each renter is responsible to clean up after themselves and the spaces they rent. If you come in and the space is not clean please let Ty know so she can make sure it doesn't happen again.
t. How many bathrooms does the theater contain? Will my audience be sharing them with an audience from another show?
-There is one bathroom on the first floor. It is shared with the whole building.
u. Will I be sharing the theater with another theater group?
-When you rent the theatre only your group should be in the theatre space. You have a right to police the space you've rented. The bathrooms are shared so you may have people in the hallway on the first floor. They have been instructed to maintain quiet during shows and you are welcome to remind them of that if they are being loud.
v. Will another theater group be performing in the space immediately after I finish performing my show?
-There are late shows at 10.30pm every night of the week except Sunday. Your 10.15pm load out time is a hard out at 10.15pm. The next shows audience will be entering the theatre at 10.20pm regardless of where you're at in clean up.
w. How much time is there between my show and the next/previous show?
-You will get the theatre from one set time to another set time (ex: 6p-10.15p) You will need to be cleaned up and out promptly. Delays will cost $40 every half hour.
x .Will the performers/audience members for the show following mine be far enough away from the theater that they won't disturb my show?
-The following show has signed a contract agreeing to their designated start time. They may not enter the building before that time. If they show up you may ask them to wait outside and if there are problems please let Ty know
y. Will there be another set on the stage during my performance?
-Currently you will always be given a black box. If there will be a set up for your rental you will be informed prior to signing a contract.
z. If I share the space, how will that effect my access to the dressing room?
-The dressing room will always be cleared for your show unless otherwise discussed during contract negotiations.
aa. Will I have a private space to store your props, set and costumes?
-One-offs (as opposed to month long weekend rentals) will not have space to store items. Month long weekend rentals get one locked closet aprox. 4.5' wide x 8' long with a sloping ceiling. It is located under a staircase.
bb. Does the theater require that someone on their staff be in the space while I'm there?
-The person signing the contract is required to be in attendance every time the group is in the space so they can fulfill the terms in the contract. If you need 2 or 3 people to juggle between being in the space they will all need to read and sign the contract.
cc. Will I be able to add on additional performances if the show is selling well?
-The space will almost always be booked immedately after your run.
dd. Are there any other restrictions that are important to know about?
-There is no food allowed in the theatre or tech booth. Valencia is a vibrant street for humans and animals alike. It's not possible to maintain a clean healthy space if we continue to feed the outdoor kids. Our garbage bins are large enough to handle our current waste. We're just not set up to handle food or food trash.
ee. What is the seating capacity?
-You will have available to you 70 permenant seats. The two VIP seats are reserved for Stage Werx and are only used with prior discussion with the renting group. There is room for extra folding chairs up to 9o seats but be aware that added seats take up stage space and reduce the acting area.
gg. Are there fans available?
-At the moment there are not. There will be two fans installed some time in the summer of 2015. (fingers crossed)
hh. Can we serve concessions?
Stage Werx 446 does not have a beer and wine license. You agree to protect the venue from sales and service of alcoholic beverages. You are welcome to sell other liquids and they can be brought into the theatre. Please clean up spills, sweep, and mop the risers and possibly stage and empty the trash. Food is not allowed in the theatre risers.
